STREGA DESIGN COLLECTION

Strega Alberti 1860 commissioned Italian designer Lucia Massari to design a glass inspired by the brand’s philosophy, tradition, and craftsmanship.

STRATA is a collection of unique numbered cocktail glasses, handcrafted in Murano (Italy) in collaboration with Fornace Mian, which embodies a 1,000-year-long tradition and is now a leader in the craft production of Murano glass furnishing lighting and accessories.

“STRATA is part of a line of investigation exploring the use of glass as a kind of moldable color. Color plays a fundamental role in my work. This collaboration with Strega formed a bridge between two very different kinds of manufacturing – glass and liqueur – which I found to be unexpectedly similar. Just as a single chemical element is selected in precise quantities, to produce a certain and specific color in the glass, so the single herb is carefully chosen to produce an exact result, including the color itself, of the liqueur. Even more importantly, they are connected by attention to detail, dedication to material, and the love infused into both products that make the defining difference to their success and quality.”

LUCIA MASSARI

Product designer born in Venice, Lucia studied in London under the tutelage of Martino Gamper and Jurgen Bey. Driven by a strong passion for colors and experimentation, she often works alongside artisans, trying to improve traditional old-fashioned craft techniques, investigating different material or aesthetic possibilities. She designs furniture and ordinary objects that detach some layer of seriousness often associated with the concept of design. She works with various galleries, including Seeds, Emma Scully gallery, Ting Ying Gallery, SWING Design Gallery, producing unique pieces or limited editions. She collaborated amongst others with Nike, Mini, Strega Alberti, D&G.
